COVID-19 AWARENESS

This whole project started out completely different. I was originally considering topics such as, the rise in homelessness in the Buffalo area, or water pollution in Erie County, but then the pandemic hit.

Back in early May of 2020, my Illustration III class assigned a project to create a series of illustrations that inspires other to take action and recognize a social or environmental issue in your community. Little did I know that soon enough, my entire life would be disrupted by an issue so widespread that I could not help but choose it as my topic.

COVID-19. A disease so silent that you may not even know you have it until it is too late. Taking loved ones from their families and disrupting entire countries and economies, I decided Social Distancing was the cause I needed to promote. The world was my audience, all age groups and people without preexisting risk factors can fall critically ill if they do not follow proper precautions to keep themselves and others safe.

While I did put a bit of a humorous spin on the topic, I wanted to make the tagline at the top to really punch the viewer in the gut with the reality of the situation.

I made a couple spot Illustrations too that could be either utilized within the context of an article about the topic, or someone on social media could save and use the circular image as their profile photo to spread awareness and support.

Lastly, here are the sketches that got me started.
